Our city has never looked better as we head into Final Four Weekend! The down time won’t last long with Fiesta just around the corner as well. I hope each of your businesses are busy with successful events this March and April. Exciting things are happening in your chapter as well. If you haven’t already, be sure to apply for this summer’s NACE EXPERIENCE! Scholarship and join us for an amazing time in Palm Springs this July. Our annual gala plans are also being set, mark your calendar’s for an early gala this year in September!

Upcoming Meetings

Join Alamo NACE on Tuesday, April 10 with speaker Sergio Jimenez-Gudino with New York Life as he divulges into Life in Business - "The Three T's of Planning". This excellent topic will focus on Today, Taxes, and Tomorrow.  

Do you or someone you know want to start a business, but are not sure where to begin? Two important key components a small business owner will need are: succession planning and retirement. Without these components, business owners are putting their families' largest source of income and financial security at risk.

A study by the American College1 revealed that:

Scholarship Applications

The NACE Experience! Conference will be held this year in Palm Springs, California, July 22 – 25, 2018. This amazing national conference is full with superior education, event inspiration and exceptional networking events. Through the support of your Alamo Chapter, this could be YOUR year to attend.

Your Alamo Chapter has set aside funds to award four (4) FULLY FUNDED scholarships to the NACE Experience! Conference to be held in Palm Springs, California, July 22 – 25, 2018. This amazing member benefit includes a full ride scholarship to include a full educational conference package registration, airfare and hotel room, based on double occupancy sharing a room with another scholarship recipient or board member. Applicants must attend all available education sessions and evening events and submit a written report within two (2) weeks of attendance. If you have questions about EXPERIENCE! and what to expect, please email your President and she can guide you through expectations and qualifications.

A committee of (3) three persons to include the President, President Elect and Immediate Past President will meet to comprehensively review and score each application. All applications are due by 5pm on April 4, 2018. Applications received after the deadline will NOT be considered. Please submit your application following the guidelines to Sarah James at sarah.james@omnihotels.com.

Final decisions will be based on the strength of the applicant’s essay submission as well as additional criteria such as NACE meeting attendance, board and committee participation, and support of the chapter through partnerships, fundraising and donations.

Recipients that are selected will be notified on or before April 9, 2018 and announced at our April monthly meeting on April 10, 2018.

Gala News

 

The award-winning annual NACE Alamo President's Gala is hosted annually to celebrate our Chapter’s success and raise funds to send our members to the Experience Conference the following summer. Catering this prestigious event is considered an honor and an opportunity. We want to give you that opportunity. This year’s theme is Fire & Ice and will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Please check your inbox for RFP details and email any questions to this year’s gala chair Christina Alvarado-Morales at christina@greateventrentals.com. Deadline for submissions will be March 30, 2018.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be present for duration of museum rentals. Act as liaison between client, vendors, and museum support staff (security and facilities) during rentals.

Be available for weekend tours with potential clients as needed.

Meet weekly with Event Rental Coordinator to discuss upcoming events, as needed. Includes follow-up after events.

Assist in museum events (openings, fundraisers, etc.) as required.

Assistant General Manager

Cibolo Creek Ranch

Located south of Marfa, TX (Big Bend region)

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Oversee the resort’s PM (afternoon and evening) activities and operations.

Oversee F&B operation, including restaurant, pool bar, and catering.  Work closely with Executive Chef on menu

selection, food quality, etc.

Organize and supervise effective and engaging evening guest entertainment and supporting social environment

Work closely with the General Manager in establishing ongoing operations procedures and programs for the ranch

PM operations

Responsible for resort-wide Manger-on-Duty shifts, rotating with GM and other Operations Managers

Conduct regular information meeting with the various department heads to ensure good communications within

operations department.  Develop and motivate staff.

Conduct daily and frequent site inspections to ensure that the highest possible standards of safety, courtesy,

cleanliness, and efficiency are met. Review all incident, inspection, and daily operating reports daily and respond

accordingly

Maintain close and open communication with peers and superiors

Direct all aspects of the operations department through a close working relationship with the operations staff

Oversee the selection, training, testing, and conduct of the lifeguard staff to ensure the highest lifeguarding

standards are met

Oversee the activities of ranch services personnel in creating a clean, pleasant ranch environment

Proactively ensure guest satisfaction through guest services and quick resolution of guest concerns throughout

ranch

Maintain safety standards for, and ensure smooth operation of, all guest activities

Develop, monitor, and meet or exceed the yearly business plan for the department. Review and report weekly to

GM

Ensure that water quality is maintained at all times and that pool chemicals are stored in a safe manner

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field

4-7 years’ experience in a hospitality role, 3-5 years’ experience in F&B, plus prior staff management experience

Professional communication skills, oral and written

Ability to work in a high-energy, demanding environment.  Ability to respond to both verbal and visual commands.

Organization and leadership skills

Demonstrates strong leadership skills and is a team player

Works well under pressure

Ability to effectively solve problems

Able to take direction and hold staff accountable

Computer Competency (MS Word and MS Excel)

Able to work independently with little supervision and direction

Remote property experience is highly desirable

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

Spanish speaking skills a plus

Direct contact with guests, management and employees

Requires high degree of professional conduct and ability to be flexible in a changing environment

Must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds, and be able to transport up to 50 pounds regularly.

90% of time standing and 10% of time sitting.

Excellent attendance, including weekends and holidays, is required with schedule flexibility determined by

business needs.

Temporary housing provided for up to 60 days to allow for immediate relocation.
